Crack Stitch Case Study
Hawaii Parking Garage
This parking garage in Honolulu, Hawaii was experiencing failure of the topping slab on a high traffic parking structure.
The Challenge
The concrete in a parking structure had failed so badly that some cracked pieces could be slightly moved by hand. Project managers were considering a full removal and replacement of the damaged slabs, which would have been extremely costly and time consuming, especially given the high volume of automobile traffic the structure supports.
The Solution
A test repair area was established in partnership with StitchDog, using 385 Crack Stitches to address all visible cracks. Many cracks required multiple stitches due to the severity of the damage. Each stitch reinforced the slab by redistributing loads across the cracked sections. After the stitching was complete, the entire area was coated with the Miracote MPC Park Deck System—a polymerized, two-component, cementitious protective and waterproof coating—to protect the repair and extend the life of the concrete.
The Result
Seven months after the test installation, the repaired area showed no signs of deterioration or further cracking. The repair successfully restored structural integrity and durability, even under heavy automobile traffic. Based on this success, Crack Stitch is now the primary repair method for future projects in this parking structure.
