New Construction Crack Repair

This state-of-the-art event facility in Kentucky is built on a hill overlooking a river.

This type location can be prone to settlement, and within a couple months after the concrete was poured, some cracking was discovered. The repair was made by United Structural Systems of Kentucky using a combination of Crack Stitches and an injection epoxy using a ported injection method.

When installing stitches with a ported injection, you have two different options:

  1. You can use the 4070 epoxy to install the stitches, let it cure, and then apply a surface seal and ports and inject the injection epoxy or a polyurethane foam.
  2. You can insert the stitches without epoxy, then apply your surface seal and ports and use the injection epoxy to bond the stitches.

In situations where the crack is wide enough, you can also simply dispense epoxy into the crack without ports. However, if water entry is a concern it is advised to do an injection to ensure the crack is completely filled.

In this case, USS chose to do one crack with a ported injection using an injection epoxy, and another non-ported injection and used the 4070 epoxy to fill the crack. They used these two different methods as an opportunity to train their crews on various types of crack repair.
